I think it is time to get to know a little about me and about this blog. First I will start by introducing myself. I am Shayla Vale. I am the mother of 6 children and 7 grandchildren (soon to be 9!). I have been happily married for almost 3 years.
I am originally from the United States and moved to the Netherlands 5 1/2 years ago to be with my husband. Even now there is a lot of adjusting to be done in a new culture. I often find myself missing certain foods or other items we, in the States, take for granted. Such as baking soda or maple syrup. Even with ingredients you are used to they have to throw in the metric system to make you feel really incompetent in the kitchen. (If you ever plan on moving here be sure to bring along your own measuring cups and spoons.)
I suffer from a chronic pain condition called Fibromialgia. Which is an auto-immune disorder. The doctors and specialists don’t know what the cause is or how to treat it. There are many drugs on the market that some may find helpful but unfortunately none of them have worked for me. I spend much of my time in severe pain and that makes taking care of my home and children difficult. Everything from shopping, cooking dinner, cleaning the house, finding hobbies, and anything and everything that can distract you from your health issues.
The name of this blog was inspired by the adage, “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade”. While for most everyone this seems like an easy task. People who suffer chronic illness have to work harder to find blessings during hard times.
I plan on sharing with you things that I have found that have helped me along the way. I have quick, easy recipe’s, some products that I find helpful, and many tips and tricks to help out. I will also be on a quest to find the best places to shop online, the best products to use, books, games, and generally find anything helpful so that everyone can find what will help them turn lemon’s into lemonade.
